Accreditation

Accreditation of degree programmes by recognised professional and statutory bodies has long given additional standing to them. Within the current quality assurance regime operated by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), professional and statutory accreditation is recognised as an important way of demonstrating that the programmes concerned are likely to meet QAA standards.

Engineering Council UK (ECUK) is the National agency that organises higher education courses accreditation when it comes to Engineering & Science. Engineering Council UK organises the accreditation process by several institutions of mixed discipline, in addition to The Joint Accreditation Board (JAB) that can facilitate information exchange and joint visits where appropriate.

Applying for Accreditation is available to any educational establishment that wants to benefit from accreditation by the Engineering Council UK , not only in the UK but worldwide.

Once the course is accredited, it normally retains accreditation for up to five years. Professional institutions may however accredit for a shorter period (Three years), especially in the case of new programmes where it is necessary to monitor outputs. Re-accreditation is normally undertaken using the same processes as the original accreditation.

The Engineering Institutions accredit more than 160 undergraduate courses in the UK and more worldwide.

In Egypt, Arab Academy for Science & Technology, Faculty of engineering has been awarded the accreditation of the ECUK. The accreditation process was fully coordinated by BEIE.

National and International Recognition

Gaining accreditation will result in the qualification appearing in the Engineering
Council UK index of accredited academic programmes. Accredited qualifications will normally also appear in the FEANI Index of recognised European qualifications and will lead to international recognition under the Washington Accord or the Sydney Accord.
