What are the Engineering Institutions in UK?
The British Engineering Institutions are the qualifying bodies for Engineers in UK; they are responsible for the development of engineering profession. The institutions accredit undergraduate courses in the UK and worldwide if requested. The largest three institutions ICE, IMechE, IET are represented in Egypt by their Country Representatives through BEIE.

What are the membership requirements?
Full time enrolment in engineering courses for student membership
 
IMechE requires an accredited academic degree for all membership grades after graduation.
 
ICE & IET require an engineering degree equivalent to that in UK though not necessarily accredited by the ECUK.
 
For CEng. Status in all institutions an equivalent to accredited degree is required
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
I am a student, can I be a member?
The Institutions' membership starts with Student (Affiliate) membership and progresses with the Engineer as he/she develops professionally up to the grade of Fellow.
 
 
 
 
 
How much do I have to pay?
Each Institution has its own fees structure; some have discounted rates for low-income engineers. Please check with BEIE Main office or institution's website.
 
 
 
 
 
I am a student, how much do I have to pay?
Full time students get FREE membership in the Institution of Civil Engineers ICE and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers IMechE; IET student membership requires 12 Great Britain Pounds per year.
 
 
 
 
 
What are the membership grades?
Membership grades start with Student Member (affiliate) upgraded after graduation to Graduate Member (Associate). For young professionals they can upgrade to Member and for highly experienced professionals they upgrade to Fellow. For those interested in gaining the professional qualification Chartered Engineer, they have to satisfy the requirements of the relevant route.
 
 
 
 
 
What is "Chartered Engineer" CEng?
Chartered Engineer CEng is the professional qualification, gained after adequate working experience plus tests/interviews; this qualification is mainly related to innovation, creativity and development of engineering profession, its requirement is an accredited academic qualification plus subsequent experience
 
 
 
 
 
What is ECUK registration?

You can register your Chartered Engineering Status with the Engineering council UK (ECUK) for an annual fee. The UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC) is the new registration standard for professional engineers and engineering technicians. By registering you can apply for Eur Ing title at the Fédération Européenne d'Associations Nationales d'Ingénieurs (FEANI).

 
 
 
 
 
What is "Incorporated Engineer" IEng?
Incorporated Engineer IEng is a qualification prior to Chartered Status CEng.
 
 
 
 
What is Academic Assessment?
If your degree is from outside the UK OR your degree is not an accredited degree, you will be subjected to Academic Assessment by the institution at a certain stage, to ensure that your academic studies comply with the Engineering Council ECUK standards and that they were adequate to provide you with the engineering basics.
